Scholarship Eligibility
The Nutley Music Boosters Association (NMBA) is proud to offer several scholarships to graduating Nutley High School seniors who have demonstrated dedication to the music program. These scholarships celebrate the passion and accomplishments of students in vocal and instrumental music during their time at NHS.
Available Scholarships:
A total of 9 scholarships will be awarded, amounting to $5,250 in support for our deserving seniors:
3 scholarships of $1,000 each
3 scholarships of $500 each
3 scholarships of $250 each
The scholarships are divided as follows:
Dr. Ernest Ersfeld Music Scholarship
Raymond Kohere Vocal Music Scholarship
Lester Hrbek Instrumental Music Scholarship
Each of these scholarships will have one $1,000 recipient, one $500 recipient, and one $250 recipient.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a graduating senior at Nutley High School.
Must have participated in the NHS music program for at least one year (includes any academic or extracurricular instrumental or vocal music ensemble offered by the NHS music department).
Must submit a 500-word personal statement on the impact of the NHS music program on their educational experience, activities, and personal life. The essay should also discuss how this experience will carry over into college.
The applicant’s family must be a paid member of NMBA for the current school year as of December 1, 2024.
Selection Process:
Applications will be evaluated using a rubric, and all submissions will be redacted to remove personal identifying information. A committee consisting of the following members will review the applications:
The NMBA President / Scholarship Chair
One NMBA Board Member who is not a senior parent (if applicable)
Three to four other parents, representing grade levels 7-11.
Note: Pursuing music as part of future studies or activities is not required but will be weighed heavily during the selection process.
